  • Women of Mystery

I’ve decided to title this online curation of images “Women of Mystery,” because that is how I have perceived them. I’ve collected artwork from a variety of different artist. Mainly women artists and men paying homage to the feminine form. Each work alone stands with power, which is why together they work so well. Artists such as Augusta Savage, a sculpture from the Harlem Renaissance era, Kerry James Marshall, a living artists from my home state Alabama, and Frida Kahlo, the world famous Mexican painter, are all featured in my Instagram virtual exhibition. Additionally, as you will see on the Instagram feed I started with images of myself since I was my initial inspiration for this virtual show and slowly transitioned into some stunning works of art.

  • Lumps, Bumps, and Buttcracks. IT’S FASHION.

Lumps, Bumps, and Buttcracks. IT’S FASHION.

Fashion is an art first and foremost, and that we must never forget.

I define remarkable fashion by how it makes you feel. If it’s good it will make you smile. If it’s great it will confuse you, it will keep you up at night, and it will be on your mind until you finally figure it out.

    Alexander McQueen: The Birds 1995.

    Comme des Garçons: F/W 1990.

Few designers are able to create great fashion, and in this article, we will discuss just that. The very few.

Alexander McQueen, the mastermind who left us far too soon. McQueen was not given the recognition and praise he deserved in his lifetime. He is credited with introducing a new silhouette to the fashion world, and only a handful of designers in history have ever brought forth a new silhouette to the industry. Alexander McQueen’s new silhouette was the “bumster”. The style elongates the torso and exposes the bum which McQueen says “It wasn’t about showing the bum… To me, that part of the body – not so much the buttocks, but the bottom of the spine – that’s the most erotic part of anyone’s body, man or woman”.

    The Bumster Silhouette.

The medal bodice created by Shaun Leane on the McQueen catwalk.

McQueen was freeing the nipple before “Free the Nipple” was a thing.

Rei Kawakubo, one of the only designers to ever be the theme of the Met Gala and a still living designer. Kawakubo is the founder of Comme des Garçons and owner of the department store, Dover Street Market. The designer turns the abnormal and weird in something sexy and fearless. As a designer, she is a true artist. Societal norms and pressures to fit in are in no way apparent in her work. In fact, the first time I encountered a Rei Kawakubo piece I was doing research on Frankenstein’s influence on fashion. Her designs are almost monstrous with a divine womanly touch.

Fashion is for the fearless, so if you are not ready to be anything but your valiant self..

    stay at home!

    Who’s the boy in CORDUROY?

This corduroy jacket was hands down the most challenging piece I have done thus far in my career. It was my first mens wear piece and I’m incredibly proud. Enjoy!

This jacket features three diffrent types of corduroy in three diffrent shades as you can see. Amazing, yes I know!

The interior pocket detail is stitched with a multituid of colored threads.

The collar is meant to contrast the jacket through the color and cut. The collar type I decided on for this piece is called a British Spread and is traditionally seen on button down shirts.

Dayja Billingsly is a makeup artist based out of SSU and she travels to you. What is unique to Dayja Billingsly’s makeup aesthetic is that she not only dabbles in the world of makeup, but she’s also a painter. Dayja enjoys playing more on the creative side, so she stays away from the traditional ways of doing makeup. She also says that being a painter has taught her to have an extremely steady hand which is exceptionally important in doing others makeup.

For Dayja the power of makeup is what truly fascinates her. She says makeup can enhance your natural features or make you look like an entirely different person. Both are great, and Dayja plays on both ends of that makeup spectrum.

In five years time, Dayja would like to own her own makeup studio. She would also like to have her own makeup line that would include a vast range of shades. Available for all skin types. Dayja most importantly sees herself being happy.
