“What Men Want” is a cinematic comedy/romance directed by Adam Shankman. The movie is actually a gender-flipped take on the film “What Women Want” released in 2000. The concept of this remake has been a long-awaited one and the butt of many jokes for some time.
The film has been marketed and advertised as a comedy featuring many well-known names: Taraji P. Henson, Max Greenfield, Erykah Badu, and Tracy Morgan. However, while the film has many laughable moments some of the jokes do fall flat. The storyline of the movie is traditional and expected, and the overall casting/roles of each character prove to be a bit cliche. Excluding the role of Sister played by Erykah Badu.

In “What Men Want” Sister is this psychic woman who gives Ali Davis, the star of the movie, a magic tea that gives her the power to hear men’s inner thoughts. Sister is arguably the funniest part of the entire film.
Furthermore, the movie’s romantic aspect is respectable but not inspirational. It is an element of the movie that didn’t feel necessary to the overall storyline. For some reason in many movies with a female lead, a fairytale ending is always guaranteed. Nonetheless, it is a plot that does feel played out.

Overall, the movie is good but probably won’t be on your mind after leaving the theatre. Notably, the movie is filmed in Atlanta, GA which is surely becoming the Black Hollywood and that is an incredible thing.
